We Children Care – “Wellness Buddies” Workshop (September - October 2025) by HKU Med

STUDENT SUPPORT TEAM, BIOLOGY DEPARTMENT

The “Wellness Buddies” Workshop is a crucial mental health program organized by HKU Med, specifically designed for high school students in Hong Kong.

The core objective is to significantly enhance mental health literacy and foster a positive attitude towards mental health aid among students, enabling them to support their peers and the wider community.

The workshop curriculum provides comprehensive training across several critical mental health domains:
•    Understanding and discussing common issues like depression, anxiety, and effective communication tips.
•    Addressing serious topics such as self-harm, reducing mental health stigma, and handling mental health emergencies.
•    Promoting proactive strategies like self-help, coping with stress, and building resilience.
Evaluation conducted by the organizer confirmed the program's success. Over the sessions in September and October, HKU Med successfully equipped students with the knowledge to face and tackle common mental health issues. The organizers were highly pleased to observe the students' growth and enhanced competency in these areas, expressing hope that these newly trained "Wellness Buddies" will radiate a positive influence to their friends and peers, thereby building a more mentally healthy school community.
